The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 is out October 29, 2026, and it is already the hardest Switch 2 to buy. Not because it plays anything special. It doesn’t. It is a standard Switch 2 in Triforce dress, and that $20 design premium is exactly what people are fighting over.
Here is the short version, before the details. The console is $519.99, which is $20 more than the standard Switch 2 at $499.99. It does not include The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or any other game. The remake is sold separately and comes out a week later, on November 5, 2026, for $59.99 digital or $69.99 physical (physical price reported, check the Nintendo Store before buying). The matching accessories land the same day as the console: the Pro Controller at $99.99, the Pro Controller with display stand at $109.99 (Nintendo’s own stores and online store only), and the carrying case with screen protector at $39.99.
If you already have a pre-order, you are set. If you don’t, the honest position as of the October 21 store check is: sold out at Nintendo’s US store and at most major retailers, no confirmed Nintendo restock date, and one concrete second chance announced so far, which is Best Buy’s in-store midnight launch on November 5. More on that below, because the restock reporting is messy and worth untangling before you pay a reseller.
What you actually get for $519.99
Same console, different look. The anniversary edition has green Joy-Con 2 controllers with gold accents, a gold Triforce on the dock, and Triforce patterns carried onto the back of the console and dock. Underneath that, it is the same Switch 2: the 7.9-inch 1080p handheld screen, 4K docked output, and 256 GB of storage, playing the same games as any other Switch 2.
The box holds the console, the green and gold Joy-Con 2 pair, wrist straps, the dock, the Joy-Con grip, the AC adapter, a USB-C cable, and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. No game, no Pro Controller, no carrying case. If a listing shows all of those together for one price, it is a retailer bundle or a reseller listing, not Nintendo’s $519.99 edition. Read it line by line before you buy.
That point matters because one write-up described an all-in-one bundle with a Pro Controller, stand, carry case, and a copy of the game. That contradicts Nintendo’s own store framing and multiple pre-order guides, which list the console as hardware-only with accessories sold separately. Treat the all-in-one version as unconfirmed unless a listing shows it item by item.
The full price list, US
| Option | Price | Release |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Nintendo Switch 2 | $499.99 | Out now |
| Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition (no game) | $519.99 | October 29, 2026 |
| Pro Controller, Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition | $99.99 | October 29, 2026 |
| Pro Controller + display stand (Hyrule map) | $109.99 | October 29, 2026, Nintendo stores and online only |
| Carrying case with screen protector | $39.99 | October 29, 2026 |
Add it up and a full set before tax runs $719.96: $519.99 for the console, $99.99 for the controller, $39.99 for the case, and $59.99 for the digital game. That is the number to keep in your head when a reseller listing flashes $750 or more for the console alone. Reseller listings reported at $750 to $900-plus are not Nintendo’s price. Do not pay that as if it were the list price.
Stock: what is confirmed, and what is not
Pre-orders sold out within about four hours of going live in September at most major retailers, and Nintendo’s US store was still showing out of stock when checked October 21. Nintendo has said a restock is planned. What it has not done, in the clearest on-record comment, is give a date or quantities: Nintendo Latin America VP Bill van Zyll said a restock of the console, controller, and game is planned but that he could not give dates or quantities right now.
That sits awkwardly next to other reporting that Nintendo said restocks would start November 5 at midnight Eastern. Those two versions do not line up, so do not treat a November 5 online restock from Nintendo as confirmed. What is concrete is Best Buy’s plan: limited numbers of the anniversary console and Pro Controller at select stores during its midnight launch event for Ocarina of Time on November 5. That is a retailer announcement, in-store, limited stock, and it is the one date worth planning around if you missed the pre-order window.
Check in this order, and stick to the $519.99 list price: Nintendo Store first (its product page stays live even while sold out, which makes it the most reliable restock check), then Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. Stock on a product like this moves in hours, so a table from yesterday is not a promise for today. Open the listing yourself before you believe any stock row, including this article’s.
A note for US buyers on the Japanese edition: Japan’s version is ¥62,980 and is sold as a Japanese-language, Japan-only system. The controller, case, and game are not region-restricted in the same way, but the console itself is not a good US buy unless you have a Japanese Nintendo Account and read Japanese.
Should you buy it, or just the accessories?
If you already own a Switch 2, the accessories are the cheaper way to get the theme. The console only makes sense if the Triforce design itself is what you want on your shelf, because it changes nothing about how Ocarina of Time plays on November 5. A standard Switch 2 and the $59.99 digital game get you the game for less, and the $99.99 Pro Controller gets you most of the look without replacing a console you already own.
FAQ
Does the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 include the Ocarina of Time remake?
No. It is hardware-only. Nintendo’s listing says the game is not included. The remake is sold separately and comes out November 5, 2026.
How much more is it than a normal Switch 2?
$20. Standard is $499.99, anniversary edition is $519.99.
Is it still available to pre-order?
As of the October 21 store check, no. Nintendo’s store showed out of stock and most retailers had sold through their pre-order allocation. No confirmed Nintendo restock date.
Is there a confirmed second chance?
Best Buy has announced limited anniversary consoles and Pro Controllers at select stores for its November 5 midnight launch of Ocarina of Time. That is in-store and limited, not an online guarantee.
Do I need it to play the remake?
No. The remake runs on any Switch 2. The anniversary edition is a design choice, not a requirement.
The bottom line
Buy the anniversary console if you want the Triforce hardware and you can get it at $519.99. If you just want to play Ocarina of Time on November 5, a standard Switch 2 and the game get you there for less, and you should not pay reseller prices for a paint job.
