Grounded 2’s Rot and Ruin update is announced for fall 2026; the October 20 reveal does not give a specific launch day. Obsidian’s Xbox Wire announcement outlines a Woodpile area, new threats and equipment progression.

What is coming to the Woodpile?
The area brings returning Termites, O.G.R.R. variants and a Centipede boss. A Potato Beetle Buggy adds close-range support, a projectile spread, healing and resource hauling. Builders receive Painting and the Splotcher, while Bismuth and the Yoking Press let weapons and armor move to higher tiers.
What returning players should watch for
Our reading of the announcement is that this update has three distinct reasons to return: exploration and combat, base decoration, and equipment progression. Choose the part your group actually enjoys before planning a session around the reveal.
For a combat-focused group, the new area and boss are the key items to follow. For a building-focused group, the painting tools are the more relevant addition. Those are planning suggestions, not tested recommendations about difficulty, resource efficiency or the strongest equipment.
Is Rot and Ruin available now?
The cited reveal says “this fall.” As of this article’s October 25 source check, that announcement supplies no exact date. It also says version 1.0 is planned for 2027. Do not confuse the update announcement with the full game’s completion.
Where can you play Grounded 2?
The Xbox storefront lists Grounded 2 in Game Preview for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. That label matters when choosing a purchase: our Xbox Play Anywhere guide explains how to check store and entitlement limits.
