How to Use Discord on PS5: Link Accounts, Join Voice Chat and Fix Problems

To use Discord voice chat on PS5, link your Discord and PlayStation Network accounts, press the PS button, then open Game Base > Discord. From there, you can join a server voice channel or open Direct Voice Chats for eligible DM and group conversations. You no longer need a phone or computer to join most Discord calls from PS5, although transferring an active call from the Discord app remains available.

Discord on PS5 is a voice integration, not a full standalone Discord app. You can talk with friends across supported platforms and display your PlayStation activity on Discord, but the console experience does not reproduce every text, video, streaming, bot, or community-management feature found on desktop and mobile.

What you need before using Discord on PS5

A PS5 connected to the internet.
The latest available PS5 system software.
An account for PlayStation Network.
A Discord account.
Your Discord and PlayStation accounts linked together.
A headset or the DualSense controller’s built-in microphone.

Direct Discord voice joining is a PS5 feature. Linking PlayStation Network to Discord can show PS4 or PS5 activity on your Discord profile, but PS4 does not receive the same integrated Discord voice-chat controls.

How to link Discord to your PlayStation account

You can establish the connection from Discord on mobile, desktop, or the web:

Open Discord and sign in.
Open User Settings.
Select Connections on desktop or web, or Connection on mobile.
Select the PlayStation Network icon.
A browser window opens. Sign in to the PlayStation Network account used on your PS5.
Review the authorization request and approve it.
Return to Discord and confirm that PlayStation Network appears under Connections.

Never send your PlayStation or Discord password to another person to perform this setup. The legitimate connection process sends you to the provider’s sign-in and authorization pages. If you are helping someone else, let them type their own credentials.

After linking, Discord provides optional controls for Display on User Profile and Display PlayStation Network as your status. These decide whether other Discord users can see the connection, your PSN online ID, or the game you are playing. Voice chat does not require you to make all activity public.

How to join a Discord server voice channel directly from PS5

Press the PS button on the DualSense controller to open Control Center.
Select Game Base.
Open the Discord tab.
Select one of your Discord servers.
Choose the voice channel you want.
Select Join.

Avatars next to a server can indicate that people are already active in one of its voice channels. Once connected, the Discord voice-chat card appears in Control Center. Open that card whenever you want to see members, change audio settings, switch chats, report a participant, or leave.

If Game Base is missing from Control Center, press the Options button while Control Center is open and customize the available icons to add it back.

How to start or join a Discord direct voice chat on PS5

PS5 can also access direct conversations you have already used on Discord:

Open Control Center > Game Base > Discord.
Select Direct Voice Chats.
Choose the person or group.
Select Start Voice Chat, or Join if a call is already active.

Discord organizes these conversations based on recent activity. If the person or group does not appear, start or interact with the conversation in the Discord app first, then check the console again.

How to transfer a Discord call from phone or computer to PS5

The older transfer method still works and can be convenient when you already have the call open.

From a phone

Join the desired Discord voice channel or call in the mobile app.
Open the call’s audio controls.
Select Join on PlayStation.
Choose the PS5 linked to your PlayStation Network account.
Select the option to transfer voice.
On PS5, open the notification or the Discord voice-chat card.

From desktop or browser

Join the voice channel in Discord.
Open the channel’s additional-options menu, or right-click the channel.
Select Transfer Voice to PlayStation.
Choose your PS5 and confirm the transfer.

If more than one console is associated with the account, select the console you are actually using. The PS5 should show a notification when the connection succeeds.

How to turn on PS5 by joining from Discord

You can allow an app-initiated Discord transfer to wake a PS5 that is in Rest Mode:

On PS5, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode.
Enable Turning On PS5 from Network.
Place the console in Rest Mode rather than turning it completely off.
In Discord, select Join on PlayStation and choose the console.

The feature will not power on a console that is fully shut down, disconnected from the network, or unable to use its network connection in Rest Mode.

Discord voice controls available on PS5

Open the voice-chat card from Control Center to manage the active call. PlayStation’s current support page lists these controls:

Audio Balance: adjust the balance between Discord voice chat and other PS5 audio.
Mute All: mute everyone else in the voice chat.
Microphone level: change how loudly your microphone is sent.
Member volume: select an individual participant and adjust their volume.
Report: submit a report to Discord’s moderation team.
Switch voice chats: move between Discord and an available game voice chat.
Leave: disconnect from the voice channel.

You can speak with the DualSense microphone, but a headset usually provides clearer audio and reduces game sound or television audio leaking into the call. Remember that the controller’s orange mute light indicates the microphone is muted.

Can you use Discord and a PlayStation Party simultaneously?

No. PlayStation states that you cannot be in a Discord voice chat and a PlayStation party voice chat at the same time. You can switch among voice chats you are part of, but only one supplies your active voice conversation.

Discord voice chat also differs from a PlayStation party. Share Screen and Share Play are party features; joining a Discord call does not turn them into Discord features.

Can Discord voice audio appear in PS5 captures or broadcasts?

No. Sony says Discord voice-chat audio is not recorded in PS5 captures or broadcasts. Do not build a stream or recording plan around capturing the Discord conversation through the console.

This also protects participants from having their Discord audio automatically included in a PS5 clip. Always get consent before recording people through any separate device or software.

Can you stream PS5 gameplay to Discord?

The PS5 integration documented by PlayStation focuses on voice chat and account activity, not broadcasting your PS5 screen into a Discord channel. A PlayStation party’s Share Screen feature is separate and does not become a Discord stream.

How to show your PS5 game on your Discord profile

Open Discord User Settings > Connections.
Select the connected PlayStation Network account.
Enable Display PlayStation Network as your status.
On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy.
Select View and Customize Your Privacy Settings.
Set Who can see your online status and what you’re currently playing to the audience you want. Discord recommends Anyone when troubleshooting activity display.

Your local Discord activity can take priority over basic PlayStation presence. For example, a game with Discord Rich Presence or another activity running on your computer may prevent the PlayStation status from being the one shown.

Why Discord is missing from PS5 Game Base

Work through these checks in order:

Update the console: Discord voice chat requires current PS5 system software.
Confirm account linking: open Discord Connections and verify that the correct PlayStation account appears.
Relink if necessary: remove the PlayStation connection in Discord, then connect it again and approve the current permissions.
Check Game Base customization: Game Base may have been hidden from Control Center.
Restart the PS5: use a full restart after updating or relinking.
Confirm you are using PS5: direct Discord voice joining is not the equivalent PS4 feature.

If you linked the accounts before Discord voice support arrived, the connection may need to be authorized again for the newer voice permissions.

How to fix “Can’t join the Discord voice chat” on PS5

Check that PS5 system software and the Discord mobile or desktop app are updated.
Make sure Discord and PlayStation Network are not reporting service outages.
Leave any current PlayStation party before joining Discord.
Try joining directly through Game Base > Discord instead of transferring, or try the transfer method if direct joining fails.
Disconnect and reconnect the Discord–PlayStation link.
Restart the router and PS5 if the connection repeatedly times out.
Verify that the intended PS5 is attached to the PlayStation account you linked.

Discord’s official FAQ recommends updating the console and resetting and reconnecting the PSN/Discord connection as the first steps for transfer errors. If an error persists, capture the exact message and contact Discord Support rather than repeatedly changing unrelated PS5 settings.

How to fix microphone or audio problems

Other people cannot hear you

Press the controller’s mute button and confirm the orange light turns off.
Open the Discord voice-chat card and raise the microphone level.
Check whether the headset has its own physical mute switch.
Confirm the correct microphone is selected in PS5 sound settings.
Reconnect the headset or controller.

Discord is too loud or the game is too quiet

Open the active Discord voice-chat card and use Audio Balance. This controls the relationship between chat and other console audio; changing only the television volume raises or lowers both together.

One person is too quiet

Select that participant from the voice-chat member list and adjust their individual volume. Ask them to check their microphone level as well—raising only your local volume cannot fix a microphone that is barely sending a signal.

Privacy and child-account controls

Linking accounts can expose your PSN online ID or current game if you enable the relevant Discord profile and activity options. Review those toggles instead of accepting visibility settings by habit.

Discord says parents and family managers can control child access through PlayStation’s Communication and User-Generated Content parental-control setting. Restricting linked social experiences may also require unlinking an existing social account. Minimum-age and regional account requirements still apply.

The short version

Link PlayStation Network under Discord’s Connections settings, update your PS5, then open PS button > Game Base > Discord. Join a server voice channel or open Direct Voice Chats for DMs and groups. A phone is optional for transferring an existing call, not required for normal direct joining.

If Discord does not appear or a call fails, update the console, leave any PlayStation party, and relink the accounts. Remember the important limits: Discord is not a full PS5 app, Discord and PlayStation party chat cannot be active together, Share Screen and Share Play remain separate, and Discord audio is not recorded in PS5 captures or broadcasts.
