BeamNG.drive launches in Early Access for PS5 on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. UTC—10:00 a.m. Eastern. The PlayStation Store lists offline play for one to four players, DualSense vibration and trigger effects, 12 open-world environments, vehicle customization, Freeroam, scenarios, and time trials.
There are two major limitations console players should know before buying: mods and VR will not be supported on PS5 at launch. Developer BeamNG says it is aiming for greater feature parity across platforms where possible, but has not promised a timeline or exact scope. The PS5 edition is also explicitly labeled Early Access, meaning development continues after release.
This is a launch preview based on official information, not a review. New Game Wire has not tested the PS5 build.

The release time above comes from the US PlayStation Store listing. Local store timing can differ by region, so players outside the US should check the countdown or release field on their own regional page.
The store currently offers a wishlist button rather than a purchase button and does not display a US price. Until a price appears at checkout or is published by BeamNG, any number circulating elsewhere should be treated cautiously.
What is BeamNG.drive?
BeamNG.drive is a driving sandbox built around real-time soft-body physics. Instead of treating vehicle damage as a cosmetic animation, its simulation models components as networks of nodes and beams that can flex, deform, and break under force.
That is why clips of elaborate crashes became the game’s calling card, but destruction is only one use of the system. Suspension behavior, tire pressure, drivetrain layouts, weight, terrain, and vehicle configuration all affect how a car or truck behaves. The developer says the physics engine updates at 2kHz, reevaluating the vehicle 2,000 times each second.
The result is closer to a box of automotive experiments than a conventional racing campaign. You can chase a clean time trial, tune an off-road vehicle, haul a trailer, explore with traffic, build a police pursuit, or arrange a ridiculous collision simply to see what the simulation does.
What modes are included on PS5?
The PlayStation Store currently describes several ways to play:
- Freeroam: explore maps with a chosen vehicle, manipulate objects and environmental conditions, and create your own experiments.
- Scenarios: structured situations including deliveries and police pursuits.
- Time Trials: choose a vehicle, environment, and route, then improve your own time.
- Mission activities: the developer’s PlayStation overview also mentions races, time trials, police chases, and other challenges.
BeamNG says the PS5 version includes 12 open-world environments spanning settings such as coastal roads, mountains, deserts, industrial areas, suburbs, highways, and jungle routes.
PlayStation lists one to four players and offline play, but the store page does not spell out exactly how every multiplayer arrangement works. Players buying specifically for a certain split-screen format, event type, or four-player setup should wait for launch documentation or firsthand verification rather than assume the label guarantees every mode supports four people.
How vehicle customization works
Customization goes beyond paint and wheels. Depending on the vehicle, BeamNG describes options involving engines, suspension types, drivetrain layouts, tires, performance components, sway bars, ride height, tire pressure, locking differentials, transfer cases, shocks, and adaptive spoilers.
Those changes feed into the physics model. A lifted off-road build should not simply look taller; its geometry, weight transfer, tires, gearing, and suspension setup can change how it tackles terrain. Likewise, an engine swap or drivetrain change can create new traction and handling problems rather than functioning as a flat stat bonus.
The official PlayStation Blog says there are roughly a thousand detailed vehicle configurations across the available vehicle lineup. That does not mean one thousand completely separate licensed cars. “Configurations” includes the different variants and setups built around the game’s vehicle families.
BeamNG.drive is Early Access on PS5
The PS5 store listing calls this an Early Access release and says the game remains in active development. Buyers will receive the evolving game rather than a declared finished version.
That label matters because BeamNG.drive has spent years expanding on PC through major updates. A console release does not automatically mean every PC feature, community tool, peripheral, or workflow has made the trip unchanged.
Early Access can also mean interface changes, optimization work, feature additions, and bugs as development continues. Anyone expecting a completely finalized console product should evaluate the launch version on its actual condition rather than the size of the PC community or the quality of older PC footage.
No PS5 mods at launch
Mods are a major part of the PC game’s culture, but BeamNG directly says they will not be supported on PS5 at launch. That affects far more than novelty vehicles. PC creators have built vehicles, maps, scenarios, props, configurations, and other additions around the simulation.
The developer says it wants feature parity across platforms where possible over the long term, but it cannot confirm timing or scope. That wording is not a promise that the full PC repository will eventually arrive on PS5.
Buy the launch version for its included vehicles, maps, and modes. Treat any possible future mod support as unconfirmed until BeamNG announces specific plans.
No VR support on PS5 at launch
VR is also excluded from the PS5 launch. The announcement does not identify a future PS VR2 release date or guarantee that headset support will be added later.
The same rule applies here: “aiming for feature parity where possible” leaves room for technical investigation, but it does not establish a product or schedule. Players primarily interested in VR should not buy on the assumption that support is imminent.
What does the PS5 version do with DualSense?
The PlayStation Store confirms vibration and trigger effects for the DualSense controller. The listing also identifies accessibility options that let players disable vibration and adaptive trigger resistance.
Its accessibility section includes advanced controller remapping, separate stick-sensitivity and inversion controls, play without rapid button presses, game-speed adjustment, control and tutorial reminders, practice opportunities, and offline pausing.
Exactly how the triggers communicate traction, braking, surface changes, or damage will need hands-on testing. The store confirms support, but it does not provide enough detail to judge the strength or usefulness of every effect before launch.
Is official online multiplayer included?
BeamNG announced in May that official multiplayer is real and in development, but said it was not available yet. The current PS5 store page emphasizes offline play and does not advertise online multiplayer.
That means buyers should not confuse the “1–4 players” store label with confirmed online races or a PC-style community multiplayer solution. Until BeamNG publishes a PS5 multiplayer breakdown, the safe reading is that official online play is not part of the launch information.
What is happening on PC at the same time?
BeamNG says PC players should expect Version 0.40 around the PS5 release date. “Around” is deliberately less precise than the October 19 console date, so it should not be converted into an exact PC patch time without another developer announcement.
The simultaneous window suggests a meaningful development milestone, but the team has not said that PS5 and PC will be identical on launch day. The confirmed absence of console mods and VR already establishes differences between the platforms.
What we still do not know
- The official US price is not displayed on the PlayStation Store page at the time of writing.
- BeamNG has not published a timeline for PS5 mod or VR support.
- The exact implementation of all one-to-four-player options is not detailed on the store page.
- No final feature-parity date has been promised.
- Real-world PS5 and PS5 Pro performance needs independent testing after release.
Those gaps are worth leaving open. A launch countdown does not justify guessing at frame rates, resolutions, pricing, wheel support, or future features.
Should you buy BeamNG.drive on PS5 at launch?
The PS5 version makes sense for players who want an unusually deep vehicle sandbox, are comfortable buying an actively developed Early Access game, and are satisfied with the included cars, maps, Freeroam tools, and structured challenges.
It is a weaker launch-day fit for anyone whose main interest is community mods, VR, confirmed online multiplayer, or guaranteed parity with the PC version. Waiting for performance testing and a detailed launch FAQ is reasonable, especially if those features matter more to you than the base simulation.
The encouraging part is that BeamNG is being direct about the two biggest missing features before release. Console players can judge the product that actually arrives tomorrow instead of buying around an implied promise.
