Activision is tracking four confirmed Modern Warfare 4 launch issues: Multiplayer loadouts that will not save, missing Combat Record and leaderboard stats, missing Campaign or DMZ launch buttons on Xbox PC, and a DMZ Operator Prestige problem. The stats issue is display-only, according to Activision, so progress is still being recorded even when the numbers do not appear.
Two problems currently have official troubleshooting steps. Xbox PC players missing Campaign or DMZ should confirm that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – Content Pack 1 is installed and check whether their Microsoft account has exceeded its 10-device limit. DMZ players unable to Prestige an eligible Operator can try equipping Rare weapons with only three attachment slots, specifically weapons that have never supported four or more attachments.
The loadout-saving and stats-display problems remain under investigation with no official player-side fix listed. Avoid repeatedly deleting saved data, unlinking accounts, or reinstalling the entire game unless Activision Support specifically directs you to do so.
Modern Warfare 4 known issues at launch
| Known issue | Platforms | Official status or workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Multiplayer loadouts do not save | All platforms | Under investigation; no official workaround listed |
| Stats missing from Combat Record or leaderboards | All platforms | Display issue; stats are still being tracked |
| No Campaign or DMZ launch button in COD Home | Xbox on PC | Install Content Pack 1 and check Microsoft’s 10-device limit |
| Eligible DMZ Operator cannot Prestige | All platforms | Try Rare weapons with only three attachment slots |
This list comes from Activision’s official Modern Warfare 4 known-issues page, dated October 22, 2026 and checked again on October 23. Activision describes it as a running list, so issues may be added or removed as investigations and fixes progress.
Multiplayer loadouts are not saving for some players
Activision says an issue preventing some players from saving Multiplayer loadouts is under investigation across all platforms. The official tracker does not currently provide a workaround or say whether the problem affects every loadout slot.
First make sure you are not confusing the issue with normal early progression. Modern Warfare 4 does not unlock Create-a-Class customization until Player Level 4. Before reaching that level, players choose from premade Default Loadouts. If you are below Level 4, the missing custom-loadout options are expected behavior rather than proof that your account has the tracked saving bug.
If you have unlocked Create-a-Class and changes repeatedly disappear, keep the troubleshooting conservative:
- Return to COD Home and re-enter Multiplayer to see whether the change appears.
- Close and restart the game once.
- Confirm that the game has finished downloading and installing all available updates.
- Test one simple loadout change rather than rebuilding every class repeatedly.
- Do not delete local or cloud saves in an attempt to force the loadout to return.
Because Activision has not published an official fix, advice claiming that one particular attachment, weapon, or reinstall procedure permanently solves the problem should be treated cautiously. A temporary result after restarting is not the same as a confirmed repair.
Combat Record and leaderboard stats may look empty
Some players are not seeing statistics in the Combat Record or leaderboards. Activision calls this a display issue only and says the underlying stats are still being tracked.
That means players should not assume a match, kill count, win, or other recorded activity has been erased just because the interface is blank or incomplete. The safest approach is to continue playing normally and wait for the display problem to be corrected.
Repeatedly signing out, unlinking an Activision account, or creating a new account can introduce a much larger progression problem. Cross-platform progress is connected to the Activision account used to play, so account changes should not be used as a casual interface reset.
It is still sensible to take a screenshot if a specific stat or challenge matters to you. That creates a reference if the display remains incorrect after Activision updates the tracker, without changing account or save data.
Xbox PC players may be missing Campaign or DMZ buttons
Activision is investigating a problem that prevents some Xbox on PC players from launching Campaign or DMZ through COD Home after installation. The company lists two checks.
1. Confirm Content Pack 1 is installed
Open the game’s installation management screen in the Xbox app or Microsoft Store and look for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – Content Pack 1. If that pack is not installed, add it and allow the download to finish before relaunching Call of Duty.
Do not assume that installing the base COD Home application automatically installed every mode package. Modern Call of Duty installations divide content into separate components, and the launch button may be unavailable when a required pack is absent.
2. Check the Microsoft Store device limit
Activision also directs players to Microsoft Store device management. A Microsoft account can have a limit of 10 devices for Store apps and games. Old PCs or devices that remain registered may prevent the current installation from receiving the entitlement correctly.
Review the device list carefully and remove only devices you recognize and no longer use. Do not remove the PC you are currently troubleshooting. After correcting the list or installing Content Pack 1, fully close the Xbox app and COD Home before trying again.
This tracked issue applies specifically to Xbox on PC. A missing mode on Steam, Battle.net, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2 should not automatically be diagnosed with the same Microsoft Store workaround.
DMZ Operator Prestige can fail even after meeting the requirements
Some players cannot Prestige an active DMZ Operator after completing the stated requirements. Activision is investigating the problem on all platforms.
The official workaround is unusually specific: equip Rare weapons with only three attachment slots. Activision clarifies that these should be weapons that have never had four or more attachment slots.
Follow the workaround narrowly:
- Confirm the Operator has actually reached the Prestige requirements.
- Open the relevant DMZ Operator loadout.
- Replace equipped weapons with Rare weapons limited to three attachment slots.
- Make sure the selected weapons were never four-or-more-slot weapons reduced to three current attachments.
- Return to the Operator Prestige screen and try again.
This is a workaround reported as successful for affected players, not a permanent patch. If it does not work, avoid dismissing the Operator or spending resources repeatedly just to test variations. Wait for Activision to update the issue or submit a bug report with the Operator state and equipped items.

What if Modern Warfare 4 is crashing or freezing?
Crashes and freezes are not one of the four items currently shown on the running known-issues table, but Activision maintains a separate Modern Warfare 4 crash-support page.
The first step on every platform is to close the game completely and restart it. Activision’s additional platform guidance includes:
- Xbox Series X|S: install console updates, maintain ventilation, and clear the console cache if crashes persist.
- PS5: install system-software updates, maintain ventilation, and make sure sufficient storage is available.
- PC: verify the machine meets minimum requirements, update to recommended graphics drivers, close background applications, and investigate remapping tools, overlays, or recording software that may interfere with launch.
- Nintendo Switch 2: restart the system fully instead of merely entering Sleep Mode; enable Share Error Information if submitting crash data.
Use those steps for repeated crashes, but do not present them as fixes for the separate loadout, stats, launch-button, or DMZ Prestige issues. Different symptoms can have different causes.
How to report an unlisted Modern Warfare 4 bug
Activision provides a bug-report form from the official known-issues page. PC players can also submit a dedicated crash report to provide technical information for investigation.
A useful report should include:
- Your platform and storefront
- The game mode and menu where the problem occurred
- The steps immediately preceding the issue
- Whether it happens every time or only occasionally
- Any displayed error code
- The loadout, Operator, map, or challenge involved
- Whether a restart reproduced or cleared the symptom
Keep the description factual. “My Multiplayer Loadout 3 resets after returning from Gunsmith on PS5” is more useful than “the whole game is broken.” Avoid including passwords, payment information, or private account details in a public report.
Modern Warfare 4 launch context
Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is a standalone purchase and is not included with Game Pass at launch; the official Call of Duty announcement says Game Pass availability is planned for Holiday 2027.
The launch Multiplayer package includes 12 Core 6v6 maps, three 32v32 Ground War maps, four 2v2 Gunfight maps, and Kill Block for 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight. Shipment is scheduled to arrive October 27. The game also launches with 33 weapons and 33 Operators across Multiplayer and DMZ.
Those confirmed features do not establish how stable every platform will be during launch traffic. Server demand, regional rollout timing, individual installations, and the tracked bugs can all affect a player’s first session.
The bottom line
The most important Modern Warfare 4 launch warning is not to take destructive action for problems Activision already identifies as bugs. Missing stats are still being tracked. Multiplayer loadout saving is under investigation. Xbox PC users should check Content Pack 1 and Microsoft’s device limit. DMZ players blocked from Prestige can try the official three-slot Rare-weapon workaround.
Check Activision’s live tracker before applying advice from an old post or video. A workaround that was necessary this morning may become irrelevant after a patch, and a newly discovered issue may be added later today.
Known issues and official workarounds were checked against Activision Support on October 23, 2026. This article will not label unconfirmed community reports as official bugs. Launch conditions and the tracked list can change quickly.
