Athanasia enters Steam Early Access today, October 19, 2026, on PC. The dinosaur-filled survival-horror FPS launches with three explorable areas—about half of the developer’s planned game—while Momentum Games works toward a version 1.0 release targeted for the middle of 2027.
The official Steam page still showed the game as “coming soon” early on launch morning and did not display a price or exact unlock time. The developer has said the Early Access price will be lower than the eventual full-release price, but no dollar amount was publicly listed at the time of writing. A free demo remains available for players who want to test the concept first.

What kind of game is Athanasia?
Athanasia is a single-player immersive horror FPS set inside an abandoned South American research facility overrun by prehistoric predators. Players control Carmen Flores, a researcher and explorer investigating disappearances and strange activity inside the facility.
The premise invites comparisons with Dino Crisis, but the moment-to-moment design also draws from immersive sims such as System Shock. The point is not simply to unload ammunition into every dinosaur. The official description emphasizes gathering information, opening alternate paths, conserving resources, crafting tools, using distractions and traps, and deciding when avoiding a fight is smarter than taking one.
The facility is designed as an interactive space rather than a straight shooting gallery. Players can hack computers, force doors open, refuel machinery, discover hidden routes, collect audio logs, and piece together what happened before Carmen arrived.
What is included at the start of Early Access?
Momentum Games says the initial build includes the first three areas of the game. The studio estimates that this represents about half of the intended final length.
The core systems are already in place, and the developer says most planned enemy and item types have been created and implemented. The remaining work is expected to focus heavily on level design, graphical assets, additional content, and polishing what already exists.
Players should expect the launch build to include:
- Three areas to explore
- Stealth and first-person combat
- Prehistoric creatures and other threats
- Resource and inventory management
- Crafting for tools, traps, distractions, and survival items
- Interactive computers, doors, machines, and environmental systems
- Hidden paths, equipment caches, and audio logs
- Steam achievements and Steam Family Sharing
Steam’s standard Early Access warning still applies: this is an unfinished game, features can change, and completion is not guaranteed on a fixed schedule. Players who mainly want a polished, content-complete campaign should wait for version 1.0 rather than treating today’s build as the final product.
What is planned for version 1.0?
The current plan is for the finished game to contain six distinct areas, additional enemy variety, and a broader selection of weapons and equipment. Momentum Games may add more areas, enemies, or items depending on feedback and development pace, but the studio says its priority is delivering the features it has already promised.
The developer is aiming for a full release around the middle of 2027. That is a target rather than a guaranteed date. Momentum Games specifically notes that development can be unpredictable and says it will explain any delays if the schedule changes.
The studio plans to monitor Steam discussions, Discord, and social media for ideas, balancing feedback, and bug reports during Early Access. That makes the launch best suited to players who are comfortable encountering rough edges and contributing feedback while the second half is built.
How much does Athanasia cost?
No launch price was visible on the official Steam page early on October 19. Momentum Games previously said the Early Access price was still being decided, and the store’s current Early Access statement only confirms two things: early supporters will pay a lower price, and the price is intended to increase when the full version launches.
Any specific dollar amount circulating before the purchase option appears should therefore be treated as unconfirmed. Check the Steam page after the game unlocks for the actual US price and any introductory discount.
Is there an Athanasia demo?
Yes. Steam lists a downloadable Athanasia demo from the main store page. That is the safest way to judge the controls, atmosphere, visual style, and basic performance before paying for an unfinished build.
A demo is especially useful here because the full game’s Steam Deck compatibility is currently marked Unknown. That label is not the same as Unsupported; it means Valve has not posted a compatibility verdict. Handheld-PC owners should test cautiously rather than assume a verified experience.
Athanasia PC system requirements
The official Steam listing currently gives these Windows requirements:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7+ | Windows 10 |
| Processor | 2.4 GHz dual-core or better | 2.4 GHz dual-core or better |
| Graphics | Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or equivalent | Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 or equivalent |
| DirectX | Version 9.0 | Version 11 |
| Storage | 2 GB available | 2 GB available |
The page displays “4 MB RAM” minimum and “8 MB RAM” recommended. Those unusually small figures may be a listing error, so buyers should not use them as reliable memory guidance until the developer corrects or confirms them. Steam also notes that its client now supports Windows 10 and newer, despite the game’s own minimum operating-system field mentioning Windows 7.
Does Athanasia have multiplayer or console versions?
The official store page lists Athanasia as single-player. It does not advertise co-op, competitive multiplayer, or online play.
Today’s confirmed release is the Steam Early Access version for PC. The developer’s current launch materials do not announce PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch editions, so console dates should not be assumed.
Should you play Athanasia now or wait?
Play the demo and consider Early Access now if the mix of dinosaurs, survival horror, crafting, stealth, and interactive level design is exactly what you want—and if you are comfortable starting with half of the planned areas.
Wait for version 1.0 if you want the complete six-area structure, prefer a more polished experience, need verified Steam Deck support, or want to see how closely development follows the mid-2027 target. The planned price increase is a reason to buy early only if the current content already sounds worthwhile; it is not a reason to overlook the risks of Early Access.
